This is Lee Child's 24th Jack Reacher novel, but it ranks as one of the series’ high points. After saving an elderly gentleman from being mugged, the situation quickly escalates and former military policeman Reacher is pulled into a turf war between rival Albanian and Ukrainian gangs. A typically propulsive narrative, Child hits all his fan-service marks—expertly delivering forensic-detail fight scenes and landing his hero in unwinnable situations, only for Reacher to use his brawn or his brains (or both) to escape and move on to the next one. A winner.
