Call to Remembrance is a unique look at the life of Bahá'u'lláh, the Prophet and Founder of the Bahá'í Faith. Drawing primarily on the Prophet's own words, the book gives a sense of immediacy and emotional intensity not found in traditional biographies and histories. Extracts from His writings are supplemented by brief passages that provide historical context and highlight the major events of His life and ministry. From His extraordinary childhood and youth through His period of discipleship to His forerunner the Báb, to the birth of His own revelation while imprisoned in Tehran's notorious “Black Pit," through the decades of His ministry and the intensity of the afflictions heaped upon Him and His followers, to the time of His passing and the provisions He made for the future of His Faith, the story of Bahá'u'lláh's life is awe-inspiring and astounding. It is a piece of history so young that its surface has barely been scratched by those who have attempted to explore it.


Included in this special edition of Call to Remembrance, published to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Bahá'u'lláh, is a collection of stunning photographs documenting some of the places associated with His life, as well as extracts from newly translated passages from His writings. Readers will be given a glimpse not only of the poetic majesty of Bahá'u'lláh's words, but of the story of His life and of the trials and triumphs that characterized it.


Geoffry W. Marks was raised in Wilmette, Illinois and became a member of the Bahá'í Faith during his years as a student at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. He later studied education at the University of Massachusetts. After serving as co-director of the Louhelen Bahá'í School in Davison, Michigan in the 1980s, he and his wife Amy settled in South Africa, where they recently retired from the University of Cape Town.
