Douglas Lindsay Middleton, Jr., appellant, was convicted by a jury in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County of attempted daytime housebreaking and malicious destruction of property. The State elected to proceed against appellant as a subsequent offender pursuant to Md.Code Ann. art. 27, 643B(c); consequently, following a sentencing hearing at which the proof required by the statute was presented, appellant was sentenced to twenty-five years imprisonment without benefit of parole. Appellant attacks the judgment thus entered on six grounds, contending:
