Publisher Description

Managing Global health challenges identifies implementation efficiency and and effectiveness of International Health Regulations (2005) as a measure that requires more serious consideration. Possible new roles for the United Nations Security Council, the World Trade Organization and the Conference on Disarmament are discussed. The lack of progress for sustainable financing of research and development for neglected diseases, which primarily affect close to 2 billion people, mostly in developing countries has slowed down the pace of implementation of the WHO Global Strategy and Plan of Action on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property. Further key considerations to managing global health challenges, including but not limited to training, accreditation, migration, remuneration and working conditions for health professionals are discussed.
