Publisher Description

It was on the eve of England’s historic Euro 2020 final at Wembley that the country mourned one of its finest centre forwards.

Paul Mariner died on July 9, 2021, after a characteristically brave battle with cancer, as confirmed by a family statement on social media.

Tributes poured in for the much-loved former player, coach and media pundit.

Fans from Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Arsenal, Portsmouth, New England Revolution and other clubs joined many famous football names, journalists and friends in sharing precious memories and paying their respects.

Before his passing, Paul agreed to write his autobiography with ex-ESPN colleague and close friend Mark Donaldson. Sadly, Paul wasn’t able to  fully contribute to his own life story.

As a labour of love, Mark instead vowed to finish it for him with the family’s blessing.

Using existing material and speaking to many who knew Paul well – from his first football strike partner at Chorley to Deep Purple music pal Ian Gillan – this is every kick Paul’s life and career as he would have wanted it to be told.
