The Scarab Murder Case

A body under a fallen statue of Sakhmet, the Egyptian goddess of vengeance, in a private museum where everyone had a motive. Van Dine wrote the Philo Vance books after a two-year illness spent reading nothing but detective fiction, and they made him the best-selling author in America for a decade. This edition adds a gallery of 57 plates, among them paintings by David Roberts, Mary Vaux Walcott and Thomas Doughty, plus one restored and coloured illustration.
