Publisher Description

Dan Houston is masquerading as a private detective who has gone under cover to investigate a murder in the Oakley Gardens Nursing Home. In truth, Houston is a con artist set on "recovering" the three million-dollar inheritance left by the dead man.

When he learns that other residents may soon be targets of the murderer, he faces a moral dilemma: concentrate solely on the con, or use his ill-gotten skills to solve the murder and save his new friends.

Or do both?

Huh!

Why not?

Houston was hired to investigate the murder of State Representative John Albrecht's father in the nursing home. This was shortly after he was approached by Albrecht's sister-in-law to recover the three million-dollar inheritance she had been cut out of most unfairly — by Albrecht.

Houston is a seasoned con man, and sees his vocation solely as a way to pull in the money. Until...

Hiring on as a maintenance man at the home, Houston befriends a gruff ex-chemistry professor and a white-haired widow, and learns that two other, seemingly random, murders have taken place there and more may be coming.

Houston's compatriots—his thief girlfriend, an aging art swindler, and his technogeek brother—fear he is going soft when he has trouble keeping his mind on the fortune. As they get to know the aging residents, however, they fall in line and embrace the new mission. Get the money and solve the murders. Why not?

With a team like this, who needs cops?

Houston learns that the smooth-talking nursing home administrator has his sights set on taking the inheritance for himself and is rigging a real estate deal to get it. Could this be a motive for murder?

The dead man's pistol-packing son hated his father. Another motive?

Dodging a suspicious sheriff and a nosy secretary, Houston digs up a long list of murder suspects, but with help from friends old and new he sets in motion a double-barreled plan to re-rig the real estate scheme. Get the money and catch a murderer. Or two.

But will they live through it?
