Just as former TV PI Marla Dane is gearing up for her big return to acting, Cathie Rollins slams on the brakes—figuratively speaking. The daughter of ex-cop Rex Alcorn—Marla's partner in crime-solving—Cathie is convinced the fatal crash during her bike club's ride wasn't an accident. And she wants her dad and Marla to investigate, even if the cops don't.

Thanks to Cathie's relentless pedaling, the police take a second lap around the evidence and realize she's right—someone engineered the death of the victim, a candy company CEO. Short-staffed, the police chief coasts straight to Marla and Rex, asking them to question the witnesses to the victim's fatal downhill plunge.

It turns out the CEO has run over quite a few people on his road to potential ruin, from disgruntled employees to his ex-wife to the bike club's safety specialist. But who had the know-how to send him flying? Marla and Rex shift gears through a tangle of conflicting clues, but as they race toward the truth, they might just find themselves careening toward danger.
