The Eleventh Edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1910–1911) is widely regarded as the finest single edition of the Britannica ever produced — the high-water mark of late-Victorian and Edwardian English-language scholarship. This volume reproduces one slice (Volume 10, Slice 8) covering 'Franciscans' to 'French Language,' including long monographic treatments of the Franciscan order, the Holy Roman emperors Frederick, Free Trade, Freemasonry, Free Will, French Literature, and French Language, together with several hundred shorter entries.
