Cougar Johnson was born under unusual circumstances and suffered birth defects which caused his mother to shield him from the outside world for most of his life.

The only life he ever knew was the one his mother created for him and his mentally challenged brother on the family farm.

When Cougar spots a girl his own age walk down the road that borders the family farm, he longs for more. He begs his mother to allow him to attend public school. At first she protests, but finally gives into his wishes.

It's during his first day at school that Cougar learns that kids can be cruel, but he holds his head high. He also meets a girl called Cindy - the only girl that does not make fun of his appearance and wants to become his friend.

As time passes and the friendship blossoms, Cougar falls in love with her. Can he risk telling her how he really feels? Can he find the courage to pursue love?
