Just weeks before Starr Follies' new show's opening night, Marky, a leading dancer, begins behaving erratically. Hannah discovers that the obnoxious Marky's fiancé, Alan, is missing.

Marky thinks there's foul play. Hannah doesn't. Until a ransom note arrives. Hannah still believes Alan is behind a scam to extort Marky so she sets a trap. Instead, the kidnappers kidnap her. They’re desperate small-timers hiding from a mobster whose daughter, Freba, they helped run away.

Now, Freba has vanished, and to save themselves they hire Hannah to track her down. But to do that Hannah must outwit two crime families, recover a stolen masterpiece, and somehow survive long enough to get paid. With a gang war brewing around her, Hannah is about to find out just how hard this can be.
