My name is Dennis. A few years ago, I went to Indonesia to research and further increase my understanding of bamboo. The resources that bamboo attributes have always fascinated me. The plan of my trip was to study the bamboo industry: History, cultivation, architecture, designs, usage, and economy. The trip is where my research started and it has been continual to this day. I believe this plant is a significant part of our planet and its future. 

The first thing that has to be understood is that bamboo is not a wood, it is a grass. Since bamboos have a tree-like appearance, they are commonly mistaken for wood. In actuality, bamboos have hollow and cylindrical stems, which are characteristics of grass. 

There are more than 1500 species of bamboo across all the continents except Antarctica. The properties of bamboo species vary greatly; They can all be used differently. It takes years to research in detail all these different species' cultivations, buildings, food, fabric, etc. But there will most likely be a specie that fits just what you are looking for.
