Married in the Dark

Miriam had always felt watched, even in empty rooms. 

She first noticed it as a girl: a breath behind her ear when no one stood there, the way her blanket tucked itself under her feet at night, the constant warmth on her left side like someone slept beside her. But she wasn't afraid. Somehow, she felt protected. Loved. 

As she grew older, she dismissed it as imagination. Until men began to die.
