Some, if not many, of these essays and encounters own their origin to a short assignment abroad. Then the habit was kept up. Whether travel broadens the mind or not, it stimulates it and, before one is aware, it becomes an inward journey, to the world of values, or such values as one dares to hope or admit. Is not when one is away from familiar land-marks that thought, sad, bitter, but alive at every point, eagerly turns homeward?
