Four months ago, my sister and I almost died. After surviving, I’ve been focused on living in the moment and making my firm successful. One night, my dad tells me he needs my help. He paid bail for a family friend in Nebraska and they need a lawyer for a murder case. Of course, I’ll do anything for my dad, so I leave right away. But what I didn’t expect is for that family friend to be the last person I ever wanted to see again. He shattered my heart to pieces with a smile on his face and now…he’s my client. I can’t allow myself to fall back into old habits and cross the attorney-client line between us no matter how much I want to.

The whole town believes I killed the mayor’s daughter, my girlfriend of three months. I’m the only person without a sound alibi because I can’t reveal what I was doing at the time of her murder. Mr. State told me he’d get me the best lawyer possible. The only lawyer that would fight despite the public’s pressure to make sure I don’t go down for this. Conveniently, he left out that he was sending his daughter Nebraska, someone who he knows I have a history with. She fled Nebraska years ago promising to never come back but here she is, looking more beautiful than ever before. I told myself if I saw her again, I’d act like I never felt anything for her, but with her safety compromised because of this case, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
