A SUNDAY TIMES TOP 5 CHILDREN’S BESTSELLER
A short novella based on the beloved characters from Alice Oseman’s acclaimed debut novel Solitaire and graphic novel series Heartstopper – now a major Netflix series. From the author of the 2021 YA Book Prize winning Loveless.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?
CHARLIE: “I have been going out with Nick Nelson for two years. He likes rugby, Formula 1, dogs, the Marvel universe, the sound felt-tips make on paper, rain and drawing on shoes. He also likes me.”
NICK: “Things me and Charlie Spring do together include: Watch films. Sit in the same room on different laptops. Text each other from different rooms. Make out. Make food. Make drinks. Get drunk. Talk. Argue. Laugh. Maybe we're kind of boring. But that’s fine with us.”
Everyone knows that Nick and Charlie are the perfect couple – that they’re inseparable. But now Nick is leaving for university, and Charlie will be left behind at Sixth Form. Everyone’s asking if they’re staying together, which is a stupid question – they’re ‘Nick and Charlie’ for God’s sake!
But as the time to say goodbye gets inevitably closer, both Nick and Charlie question whether their love is strong enough to survive being apart. Or are they delaying the inevitable? Because everyone knows that first loves rarely last forever…

Just beautiful
I say this so much love in my heart, it’s truly an amazing story about love amd finding yourself and understanding so many different aspect of life. And I just love it, if I had found this book back in my teens, it would have been a huge help on my journey to loving myself but I am glad I still found it! If you have the chance to read ALL the book, do it! You would not regret it.
A must read for anyone in love with this two!
I was quite young when I first read the original Heartstopper comic, my big coming out had just happened and it felt both comforting and nice to know there was something out there I could relate to. They’re love story has been a huge motivation for be as an LGBT+ person, sometimes it’s hard and also scary (specially for those of us who grew up with bullies, etc.) to think about romantic or even platonic relationships and this book, this series has been my one remembrance that love does exists and acceptance and appreciation do too. It’s a beautiful series and a well done at that, sure this is a tough to read at moments kinda book but it touches on so many subjects that deserve that kind of spotlight, it’s comforting to know this is a princess story but a real one, the argue, the make up and sometimes it’s harder than that; but in the end it’s all good and that feeling of “wait, that could be me too” just washes over you in a ways that’s both inexplicable but also just feels right. Definitely read if your a fan of the series, and even if your not, it’s a wonderfully done love story that doesn’t feel fake or unobtainable, but instead feels real and hopeful.
I really liked it
