In this classic mystery, Henry Gamadge—expert in books, manuscripts, and the nuances of human nature—is summoned to "Underhill," the country estate of his old friend Sylvanus Hutter. Hutter is attempting to write a novel, but his work is being sabotaged by an unknown hand that inserts cryptic, threatening quotations into his manuscript during the night. What starts as a literary prank quickly turns deadly when a family member is found dead.
