Our world faces an unprecedented environmental crisis. We have lost more than 70% of wildlife in the last fifty years; at the current rate of deforestation, in less than a decade the Amazon will become a net emitter of greenhouse gases; rising sea levels threaten entire cities; frequent natural disasters resulting from extreme weather events wipe out lives indiscriminately.

Latin America and the Caribbean have a predominant role to play in mitigating this crisis, as they possess the greatest concentration of biodiversity on the planet, the main sources of fresh water, the Amazon biome and an unquantifiable wealth of coral reefs, among others. Aware of this reality, Iván Duque sets out in these pages a roadmap for the countries of the region - with realistic, bankable, replicable, scalable and sustainable strategies - to join efforts that will enable short, medium and long-term solutions.

The era of speeches and promises is over. To save the planet, concrete actions are needed and they must be implemented now.
