Only one person can give her the freedom she seeks--but is it worth the risk?

Maisie Kentworth is being forced to stay on her parents' ranch. After a short-lived relationship with the wrong man, she's worried about inflaming things further between her former beau and her protective family. Left to rue her mistakes, she keeps busy exploring the idle mine at the edge of their property, where she discovers a great treasure.

Boone Bragg is also stuck. With his parents on vacation, the management of Bragg Mining falls on him, and one of his advisors wants him as a son-in-law. One wrong move, and Boone will end up either offending an associate or marrying a woman he can't endure.

While closing up a spent mine, Boone gets two surprises. One is a spitfire farm girl who's trespassing with a pickax, and the other is the amazing crystal cavern that she's discovered. Suddenly Boone sees a way to overhaul the family business. With part of the cavern on Kentworth land, Boone makes Maisie a proposal that he hopes will solve all of their problems. Instead it throws Joplin into chaos, and it will take all of Maisie's gumption to set things right.

Delightful and full of mischief Historical Romance!

This is the second installment in the “Joplin Chronicles” Series and I loved it as much as the first one! Maybe even more!
The town of Joplin is full of fun characters and lots of adventure. In this story, Maisie Kentworth has been grounded to stay within the confines to the ranch after an unfortunate romance with Silas, a man who charmed her way into her heart, the same way he had done with many other women. The problem is: one, Maisie is too restless to stay within the confines of the ranch, and, two, Silas hasn’t gotten the message that their relationship is over and continues harassing her. Thankfully, she has her brother Amos and cousin Hank to defend her, but she feels bad because they end up in trouble because of her. Trying to divert herself, Maisie explores the abandoned mine next to their ranch. What she never expects is to uncover crystal cave by accident!
Boone Bragg is in charge of the family’s mining business, while his parents are on vacations. Important choices lay on his shoulders. But one of his best advisors wants him also as his son-in-law. How can he evade getting married to someone he can’t abide, while not ruining his relationship with his mentor? Then, as he’s closing a spent mine, he discovers a spunky woman with a pickax inside, and not only that, but that she has uncovered an amazing crystal cavern! Then, as he knows more about this genuine woman, an idea takes form, a proposal that might just be the answer to both of their problems, business and romantic. But, can a marriage of convenience between two very driven people really work?
This was a fun and sweet story that I completely enjoyed! I loved revisiting the town of Joplin and its people, who were already endearing to me. I especially loved Maisie: she was charming, creative, straightforward, spunky, adventurous and kind! Boone was also a charming hero, although I wanted to shake him a couple of times! Men! But he had a heart of gold too, and gradually won my heart completely! The plot was engaging, with action, some mystery, great dialogues, an inspiring message and sweet moments too!
A delightful read all in all! I totally recommend it! You’ll fall in love with the characters, not only the main ones, and you will also hate the villain. You will laugh out loud and sigh. You’ll be wanting for more when the story ends. I loved the ending!
I definitely recommend this book to historical romance lovers who like heartwarming and inspiring stories. Very worthy read!
I received a complimentary copy of this bool from the Publisher but wasn’t required to post a review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
