LAKE PLACID, N.Y., 1932—Sports journalist Emma Hancock can't wait to highlight the female athletes at the III Olympic Winter Games, including the historic speed skating demonstration. However, she refuses to limit herself to fragile stereotypes—even when her male colleagues slam the press room door in her face. After a federal agent warns her of a plot brewing, she turns her gift for following a story thread toward uncovering a conspiracy that could turn the Winter Games into a tragedy.

One-time Olympian Ryan Callahan is a newcomer to the winter stage, but with the Olympics in his backyard, he straps on his speed skates to stay at peak level for the upcoming summer games in Los Angeles. With Lake Placid struggling to house the influx of visitors, the Callahan family opens their home to a female journalist—a move that threatens to upset Ryan's carefully controlled routine and training intensity.

When odd happenings begin to affect the athletes, Emma and Ryan must work together to link the suspicious events and report them to the BOI. But as the same pattern of sabotage resurfaces months later at the LA games, they realize the threat is far more reaching than one small town. In a race against an unknown enemy, Emma and Ryan must fight to keep their Olympic dreams—and their futures—from being dismantled before they reach the finish line.
