In this smart and heartwarming outing from Mason (Sorrow and Bliss), a jilted woman's life changes after she befriends her favorite author. Sophie Pattison, 36, enjoys her production gig for literary festivals, miking up famous novelists and learning their quirks, but her personal life is imploding. Her husband of eight years just left her for another woman, and she can't help withdrawing from her friends. Isolated, she becomes obsessed with renowned author Lilac Dunne. After Elizabeth Strout drops out from a festival lineup, Sophie is ecstatic to learn Dunne will take Strout's place. Much to Sophie's amazement, Dunne takes an interest in her. Even more exciting for Sophie, the pair develops a working relationship after Dunne finds out Sophie grew up in a cult, the subject of Dunne's next novel, and Dunne begins interviewing her for research. Through it all, Sophie attempts to rehab her love life, work through the meaning of her obsessive "parasocial relationship" with Dunne, and find unexpected connection with a colleague.
