About the Book;
Suzanne Collins' most recent book in the Hunger Games universe, Sunrise on the Reaping, came out on March 18, 2025. This prequel tells the story of Haymitch Abernathy, who was Katniss and Peeta's mentor in the original trilogy. It focuses on what he went through during the 50th Hunger Games, which is also called the Second Quarter Quell.
The story takes place 24 years before The Hunger Games. It starts on Haymitch's 16th birthday, which is also the day of the 50th Hunger Games. This Quarter Quell says that each district must send two males and two girls, which is twice as many as normal. At first, Haymitch is not chosen, but after another tribute dies, he is picked to take their place. Maysilee Donner, Wyatt Callow, and Louella McCoy are also tributes from District 12.
Haymitch shows that he can be tough and smart throughout the Games, especially when he uses the arena's force field to his advantage. President Snow admires him for going against what the Capitol wants, yet he also gets angry with him. Haymitch endures personal traumas when he wins, including the planned death of his girlfriend, Lenore Dove, which forces him to live alone in the Victors' Village.
