The 1066 Country Walk

In September 1066 William Duke of Normandy brought his army to Pevensey in East Sussex, and went on to defeat King Harold at the Battle of Hastings, thus changing the course of English history forever. You can follow in the footsteps of William the Conqueror taking in such historical gems as Pevensey Castle, Herstmonceux Castle, world famous Battle Abbey, the medieval town of Winchelsea and the unique charms of Rye. The 1066 Country Walk goes through some absolutely glorious countryside containing picturesque villages, quaint hamlets, Anglo-Saxon and Norman churches, oast houses, windmills, ancient woodland, rivers and breathtaking valleys.


For the first time the 1066 Country Walk is broken down into 6 separate stages by local author Nick Brown, each with its own sketch map, superb photos and interesting snippets of local history. In addition his detailed guide to refreshments, accommodation, public transport, useful websites and FAQs provides walkers with all the essential information they will require when planning their itinerary. In addition there are 6 circular walks in the second half of the book, all incorporating part of the 1066 route, which allows walkers to explore even more of this delightful countryside!
