Kirsty Fox has never shied away from a challenge. The kindergarteners she taught at school knew she was fierce, and she couldn't let them down. Sometimes that meant pushing yourself to the extreme by running 27 miles along canyons in Big Bend National Park. Exhausted from the strain and heat, she plods to bring one foot in front of the other as the world suddenly spins around her.


Samuel Brooks had a plan for his day off. He'd go out to his favorite canyon, kick back in a folding chair and enjoy a beer with the crickets and the warblers. Of course, plans have a way of going sideways once other people get involved. Mix in some fainting and hyperthermia in this desolate wilderness, and you can kiss your day off goodbye!
