FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE OFTEN WRONG.

Dr. Guthrie Hiller thinks Dr. Aubrey Fisher, head of the Barratt County ER, is a stuck-up icicle, too cold to care about anyone. He doesn't understand why his little sister calls Aubrey her closest friend. But one night changes everything. Guthrie sees the truth: this woman cares deeply-she's just too scared to show it.

Aubrey Fisher has endured more loss than most can imagine, and it makes her stronger-or so she tells herself. All she wants is a stable life for herself and the sister she's raised. But someone is threatening everything, and her best friend's infuriating older brother might be the only one who can protect her.
