Born with melodies in her veins and shadows in her blood, she is a half-Vhemin bard who never wanted a war. But when the ancient mountain fortress Heaven's Gate erupts in fire and ruin, chaos engulfs her home of Imshir. A cult has awakened something that should have stayed buried, and now it wants everything she loves burned to ash.

In the devastation's wake, her parents are dead, her allies turn against her, and enemies from a far-off land ruled by the Raven Queen hunt her. The only person more lost than she is Tarragon—a fairy warrior who wants every last Vhemin dead.

Evanne seeks justice. Tarragon seeks vengeance. But neither of them will get what they want unless they stop the true mastermind behind Heaven's Gate's destruction. If they fail, the land will fall into ruin, and two realms will burn.
