Like many bored children on a rainy day, Princess Irene escapes her nurse and explores the castle in which she lives. Unlike many children, she makes a marvelous discovery and finds a wonderful lady living at the top of the stairs, who claims to be Irene’s great-great-grandmother.
But this is only the beginning of Princess Irene’s mysteries. No one will believe her, and worse, she cannot find the room, nor her great-great-grandmother again. Was Irene only imagining things?
Meanwhile a crazed army of goblins is frantically tunneling under the castle, in order to abduct Princess Irene and marry her to the goblin Prince Harelip. A local miner boy, Curdie, overhears their plans, and tries to warn the castle guards, but he also is not believed.
Until they can convince the adults, Princess Irene and Curdie must quell the goblin threat alone. Can two mere children defy an army of goblins and their very determined Queen?
