Windows Surface Quick Start Guide

I still remember Windows 95. It was revolutionary in every way! No longer were there clunky windows; Windows 95 had a clunky start button that had replaced it--and to top it off, there was a music video of Weezer! It was the first time I had ever seen video on my computer screen, and it was amazing...and pixelated!


If you remember any of the thrill of Windows 95, then you're in for a treat--Windows 8 is a complete overhaul. Gone is the start button. Gone are a lot of things. Microsoft took a revolutionary approach with Windows 8--they changed the entire design, and it takes some time getting used to it.


This short guide is to help get you to know Windows 8—the focus is on the Windows Surface tablet, but because Windows Surface is running a version of Windows 8, much of what is in this guide will apply to any version of Windows 8 you may have. 


This is a beginner’s guide—it’s for the people who turned on their Surface and have confused ever since! If you are an experienced computer user, you may find some helpful tips, but the emphasis here is on giving new users a crash course.
