PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
As an elementary and junior high teacher and certified child and adult yoga instructor, Weis brings her expertise in both fields to this book about teaching yoga to children. Designed as a teaching guide for experienced practitioners, this book is not for someone looking to learn yoga. Breathing exercises lack clear instruction, yoga poses are not described in detail, and the illustrations are rudimentary. For readers interested in teaching yoga, however, Weis's book is effective. Exercises on breathing and movement for different age groups lead readers through engaging activities sure to appeal to children. Weis provides sound advice on teaching different age groups, explaining how to engage children, especially the tween and teenage groups. Lesson plans, examples of how to communicate with parents, and suggestions on how to incorporate yoga into different settings are useful and evidence of Weis's years of experience as a teacher. A short chapter on how yoga can benefit children with special needs deserves close attention; readers will wish for more information on the subject. A resources section offers a diverse selection of books and music to use to connect yoga poses to different themes. While a practical book with sound advice, Go Go Yoga Kids is useful for only a limited audience. (BookLife)
