Descripción editorial

In "Hand Me Downs" Tamara and Manley have much to learn about surviving the harsh winters near the Canadian Border. This insulated region in the geographical center of North America, nearly empty of human inhabitants at the beginning of the twenty-first century, harvests massive crops of wheat, oats, canola, and flax. The arrival of oil fracking in the Bakken Oil Fields competes with these harvests as it brings huge numbers of new inhabitants to the border country. Tamara's story is a creative non-fiction tale of social and physical survival during the horrendous winter of 2011.

In "Hobart" April and Bert confront relationship issues in their ex-pat relationship. After a harrowing night time anxiety attack, the two fly south to Tasmania, Australia's southern island state, to celebrate the culture of Hobart, the closest state capital to Antarctica.

In "Track Less Traveled" Nueva and Chris tackle the inclement weather and harsh conditions of western Tasmania near Cradle Mountain in early spring.

All three of these couples must cope with not only devastating (but stunning) environments, but with the process of forming new romantic relationships in mid-life. Is it their personalities and culture or the settings in which they find themselves that create the greatest obstacles to their success?
