Promises in the Wilderness Promises in the Wilderness

Promises in the Wilderness

Descripción editorial

"Wilderness".  The word alone conjures up many ideas.

Empty. Barren. Dry. Lost. Vast. Harsh. Solitary. Isolated. Unknown. Stark. Never-ending.

The list goes on.

In life, we can experience wildernesses in our relationships, our finances, our spiritual walks, and more. Sometimes these wilderness experiences are intense but brief; other times they last for months, years, or even decades.

It's easy to become discouraged, despondent, and angry. We want out, and we want out now—by any means possible.

In Exodus 16:10, we read something significant. As Israel is complaining about the lack of food in the desert, this happens: "And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud!"

The Israelites turned to face the wilderness, turned to look toward the barrenness, the uncertainty, the desert place. And that's where God appeared to them.

We often want to find any means of escape to run away from our own wilderness. But it is often in the wilderness that God meets us.
