Sins of Mars

A prodigal Earth undergoes an economic meltdown just as man makes his first orbit of Mars. The crew of Heartbeat, a medically equipped spacecraft, grow decadent after a corrupt Mission Control postpones their glory. With humanity bilked out of its greatest achievement, the enterprising crew begins jockeying to get the first man on Mars at any cost. And to hell with safety and orders from Earth.

The space surgeons have solidarity in their mad quest: to make a suicidal volunteer, or parts of him, fit inside a Mars rover. Derided by the crew of immoral academics, massage therapist MacKay resorts to pettier crimes to kill the ennui caused by his uselessness. But his indignation might kill mankind's one chance for a Mars touchdown. And in space, a man's guilt stretches as far as the void.
