Lucaine, the king of the Vampire Lands has already known the identity of his consort for more than fifteen years, although the boy has never been told or prepared in anyway. Young Prince Valane has just turned eighteen and is already emotionally broken to a dangerous extent. He has been tortured and neglected all of his short life by his own father, High King Jain.
