Maisewith is horrified when a female inhabitant is tortured and executed, without defense or a fair trial, allegedly for lying. Unwilling to live under such tyranny, Maisewith plans her escape. She’d rather freeze to death than live in fear. That plan changes when her escape is thwarted and she is forced to mate with an elderly Laeperian. She is determined she will not bring a child into this monotonous, confining, and unjust society, but what choice does she have? The only escape from this cavern is death. This novel is the first of a four-book series. The second, The Girl on the Green Planet; the third, The Girl Goes to War; and the fourth, The Girl Finds Her Place, will soon follow in order.
