It is the beginning of the war between Russia and Japan. Dark times are coming again. Another period of hunger, poverty and bloodshed…

But, people don’t understand, do they?

They never learn…

Tolstoy, with this book, tries to speak to all level of society, from the Tsar to the common soldier, and tell them that wars are not good; that they bring nothing but death and sorrow. He asks them to bethink themselves and think about life; to ask themselves why they live, who they are and what they should or should not do in life.

He sends his message of peace through this book, which represents a crusade against the blood lust and the joy to kill people out of selfishness. This book reveals the extent to which the author is an impeccable person, without sins. He cannot harm any person because God has sent him to help people and show them the right path to walk on.

In this book, Tolstoy provides good arguments against the war and the hypocrisy of the politicians, who always care about them, not for the common people.  He also judges the soldiers and journalists because they follow the politicians and drive societies towards wars.

This is a book that every person should read, in order to understand that the war leads nowhere, but into death and only death.
