Before the glitz and glamour, the lights and the fame, she was just another girl growing up in D-Block -- a gritty and dangerous neighborhood in the Housing Projects where everyone knows they'll be lucky to make it out alive, so very few people try to do so.

Faced with the traumas of growing up as a feral child who would have had to fend for herself if not for her older siblings, Kandella dreams of a better life where her mother isn't turning tricks and her family doesn't have to be torn apart by drugs.
