Written in order to defend Shakespeare's original works from changes made in newly published annotated editions, this 1890 volume suggests that specific words and lines in each of Shakespeare's history plays—including Richard II, King John and Henry V—are necessary for understanding the playwright's intentions and should be preserved at all costs.
