Danish Christmas Food

Christmas - Jul - is very popular in Denmark wth many wonderful tradions. There are many typical Christmas traditions such as the Advent Wreath, the Christmas tree, cards, Christmas markets, advent calendars and gifts. Food and drink naturally plays a big part in the Danish Christmas celebrations.  The food is a typically Danish combinastion of old and new.

The main event of the Danish Christmas is Juleaften - Christmas Eve. There is a big Christmas dinner in the evening of December 24th, followed by December 25th and 26th with more food. Throughout December big Christmas lunches - Julefrokost - are held in schools, workplaces and by friends. Festive food such as cookies,  cakes, drinks, chocolates and savoury snacks are eaten in Christmas markets and in the home.
