The major aim of this chapter is to introduce the notation that is employed
throughout this book. The notation used is actually a slight modification of
the index notation commonly employed in tensor analysis. The components
of the tensors and all tensor equations will be written in matrix form, and
matrix algebra will be used throughout this work. We will be chiefly concerned
with tensors of order 1 and order 2.
