In Gentlemen’s Agreement, The Inheritance, and Indebted, soldier-turned-private detective, Mark Kent, is hired to look for missing people and diamonds but finds he must also untangle family and business relationships.

The mood changes with the fourth story, The Window, which stands alone as an eyewitness account of a right-wing demonstration in a small town. The story draws parallels with left-wing violence and history, and also touches on the role of women looking for equality in nationalist groups.

Finally, Lost Property, follows a bored public sector worker, passed over for promotion and trapped in the security of his own job. A chance encounter with a fun-loving woman of independent means encourages him to have a different perspective on life.
