How to develop accessible iOS apps

It's great that you're dedicating time and effort to improving your skills in developing accessible iOS apps! You're probably already aware that how people interact with your app can differ and that people prefer to interact in a way that suits them best. Maybe you've heard or read that making your app accessible is important, but you don't realize why. Or you're wondering how to do that.

That's why I wrote this book—because, like you, I encountered a lot of ignorance. By doing some research, I have learned more about accessibility in mobile apps. I want to save you the long search for information and solutions. Although much more information has become available, there is still room for a book with practical examples.

In this second edition, I take another approach. I will start by telling you how the developers started the project within a big company I worked for. I will show you a practical approach to integrate accessibility throughout the whole development cycle. However, the road you will take can vary depending on what kind of company you work for. I know some companies have entire teams or even departments working on accessibility. Only some have that luxury, however.

While doing this, I will touch on topics that can help to put colleagues' or management's opinions into another perspective. I will show you figures about people with impairments, the use of assistive technologies, forthcoming legislation, and how you can reduce the effort it takes to create accessible apps.

After that, you will learn how you can make an accessible app. We will look at the guidelines, the specific needs some users have, the assistive technologies, and how you can support those.
