Ian Buchanan has a very big secret…

A powerful London newspaper editor, Ian Buchanan has made an art out of demolishing adversaries in scathing columns read over tea and toast. But when he's unjustly fired, he can't defend himself without revealing a childhood secret that would destroy his reputation and make him a tabloid favorite.

Seeking solitude to plan his defense strategy, Ian travels to Hopeville, Texas. This strategy definitely doesn't include his cabin's bubbly, barefoot hostess, Sophie Grey, whose Jessica Rabbit dress, welcoming smile, and penchant for literally falling into his arms make for an all-too-tempting distraction.

The proud new owner of a string of vacation cabins, Sophie Grey can't believe she's embarrassed herself by stumbling into the arms of her newest guest: a brooding British man of mystery whose sexiness is leaving her wobbly in the leg department. Suddenly, she's planning all the ways they can be together, vertically, horizonal . . . and maybe diagonally, if that's even a thing.

But now that Sophie's walking on the wild side with Ian, her inner accountant is spotting a bunch of contradictions that don't add up. Ian's cut-glass English accent doesn't quite go with his bareknuckle boxer's physique and his frequent urgent trips back to the UK are giving her pause for thought.

As secrets are piling up, Sophie starts to wonder if the handsome Brit is perhaps a man of too much mystery. And with both Sophie and his future in the balance, will Ian finally reveal all?

Loved this book!!

I found myself a new favourite author and really fell in love with this book!
The story flows from page one. I even shed a tear but in the end it left me with a smile. All characters are well described and they grow on you as you learn more about them. Especially Ian and Sophie.

Complicated, sweet love story in nice setting.

Evie Snow, “Talkin’ the Talk”.

As a Hidden Gem ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is.

English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 5 stars (of 5).

In general: Complicated, sweet love story in an interesting setting.

Main characters:
- Sophie Grey. Living at the Lonely Creek Ranch House in Texas with her brother Hank and her father. Her parents were divorced. She was raised by her mother but now lives with her dad and works for him as the manager of the holiday cottages near the ranch.
- Ian Buchanan. Editor-in-chief of an important English newspaper. Fired by the owner of the paper, William Fairclough, to keep it a secret that a journalist, William’s son, made a serious mistake. The owner and his son want to publish that Ian is responsible for the mistake. And they are searching to find more dirt in Ian’s past, so they can give him a bad reputation. To reconsider his situation in peace and avoid his downfall, Ian hires a cottage of Sophie’s family for a few weeks.
- Candy Blume.
Childhoodfriend of Sophie. Married to Beau, who lost his job on an offshore oilrig.
He’s looking for work and Candy gets him a job on the family ranch.

Sophie and Ian meet when she has to show him his holiday cottage. Their first meeting is a disaster. Sophie is too late and Ian’s reaction is rude. A nervous Sophie talks a lot and a stressed, jet lagged Ian asks her to stop chattering for she invades his privacy and gives him a headache. But Sophie has to visit the cottage again. She looks after the house and has to refill his refrigerator regularly.
Despite the bad start they gradually like each other. Sophie admires his looks, confidence and interesting British accent. Ian thinks she looks gorgeous and secretly enjoys her spontaneity, intelligence and lovely character.

The author, Evie Snow, creates a sweet love story with a lot af complications. The relationship between Sophie and Ian has many problems. Among other things caused by their difficult youth, some blackmail attempts and a worsening situation between Candy and Beau, in which Sophie and Ian get involved. But it also results in interesting dialogues, exciting action scenes (among others in Scotland) and credible additional characters.
Well done.
