What is scary, and why does it fascinate us? How do writers and storytellers scare us? These are the main questions that we will focus on. In this unit we will try to find the answers to these questions by exploring the aims, conventions and effects of horror stories.

By reading and analyzing several short stories that create shivers down your spines, we will step into the worlds of mystery, darkness and terror.

Students will:

Write texts that employ suspenseful features and elements of horror.
Develop audience awareness techniques and use that knowledge to shape their writing.
Create original projects that focus on the literary features and content area covered throughout the lessons.
Compare and contrast the different elements of horror stories.
