More than thirty years ago, the galaxy nearly ended at the hands of the Dread Fleet and isotome weapons. But thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of a few brave souls, disaster was averted, allowing human, Rotham, and Polarian kind to enjoy three more decades of relative stability. The years proved especially kind to the reunified human empire, guided by the supreme leadership of Queen Kalila Akira. By most accounts, these are golden times—but some, like Kane, have reason to doubt this veneer...

Kane was only a boy when humanity's Empire was brought to the verge of extinction. He knew nothing of the hard choices made--noble and cruel--that paid for humanity's salvation. Now after 30 years of prosperity, he is caught in the crosshairs of destiny. Face-to-face with the consequences of choices he never made. All while strange occurrences fuel rumors of darker horrors lurking among the stars.

He's not the only one who bears the weight of this uncertain and dangerous future. Princes, Politicians, Soldiers, and Criminals alike, no human is safe anywhere. Not on their great fortress worlds, not even behind their supreme interstellar fleets. Humanity is threatened inside and out, from those who seek to change the balance of power, and other forces so elusive and mysterious that they still defy even the greatest minds and best scientific understanding. How much of this is real, and how much is the result of speculation, rumor, or some psy-op campaign…Kane just doesn't know. Neither does it seem the very highest members of government, or the military, or anybody else.

Yet despite the uncertainty, Kane simply can’t shake the feeling that something terrible is coming. And maybe, that something terrible is already here.
