Living with Autoimmune Hepatitis

I am a 45 year old woman who was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis  (AIH) in my early 20s.  In the early 90s, there was no social media and certainly no access to the internet for most people.  It wasn’t until 2008 that I had the opportunity to meet another person with autoimmune hepatitis to compare stories.


When people are first diagnosed, it is natural that they want to reach out to people who have the same diagnosis, so that they can get a sense of what to expect and whether they will be okay.  There is no cure for this, but what I can tell you is that I am 20 years into this disease and I had a few bumps in the road, but I am doing great.  I work.  I am married.  I have friends.  I even have a social glass of wine with dinner a few times a month.

This book is is about my journey through this disease.  There is no cure at this time. I seemed to have one setback every decade but most days I feel as well as someone who does not have this disease.   Also, anything health related on this journey I included, whether or not it was definitively tied to AIH or side effects from medications.  If you are on this journey too, you will know what what you are feeling is not always clear whether it is AIH, Meds, or something new cropping up.
