MANAGING PRISONS. A NARRATIVE OF A MEXICAN EXPERIENCE is a historical review of the Mexican corrections system and a description of the author’s own corrections-related work from 2008 to 2012 as head of Mexico’s Federal Corrections System. The experience was focused on the challenges facing the Mexican corrections system and the foundations for a new model from the administrative perspective rather than the usual criminology or justice administration approach.

The book delivers an account of the work undertaken to transform the Mexican prison system based on statistics and analysis of the variables that caused distortions and imbalances in the Mexican corrections system with respect to the detained population; to infrastructure; to budgets; to operational costs; to coordination between the system and different government jurisdictions.
