Roberts unevenly touches on themes of privilege and inequality via sometimes overly descriptive prose, which slows the pace of this titillating debut. Paedyn and Kai's alternating POVs skillfully juxtapose steamy romantic encounters with heart-pounding action and gory violence, delivering a tale of political and personal intrigue that capably kicks off an epic trilogy. So good book.
I love the character. The love triangle between Paedyn and the two brothers. Magic.
A solid attempt
The world of fantasy is so large that it is difficult to find a place and stand out. Honestly, this book contains a good story. If you can look past the repetitive wordings and dragged out banter. Some parts also felt unoriginal, but I think it’s unfair to deduce rating for that, considering the first sentence of this review. The story’s pace was fine and the switching of POVs did work out. In terms of storytelling, the book was very, very detailed. For example, sometimes one metaphor would have sufficed, instead of two or three. Such things make reading harder.
