Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812–52) was a nineteenth-century English architect and designer.  He challenged the traditions and values of classical architecture – not by inventing something novel, but by reviving and adapting the Gothic styles current in the medieval period. However, his emulation of Gothic architecture, ecclesiastical furnishings and art was not just about the revival of an old artistic tradition. It was as much about finding a style that could epitomise the national, cultural and religious character of Britain. This book offers an introduction to Pugin, his inspirations, his triumphs and his failures. It offers a wide variety of interactive activities and images, to give you a rich sense of Pugin's work and achievements. A student at A-level, International Baccalaureate, or K-12 level will be stretched by this content and teaching. If in doubt, download the free sample.
