The purpose of the present study is to present the stylised facts of household savings in Pakistan. The findings are based on the Micro Level Data of Household Integrated Economic Survey 1993-94. The results show that rural households on average save 15 percent higher than urban households, and those who engage in agricultural activity save the highest, i.e., 22.2 percent. It is also found that married couple save more than singles, and uneducated save more than educated workers. Similarly, the self-employed had more savings than other employment categories. Because of the low saving rates at household level as compared to other countries, some policy changes have also been suggested to boost savings at the household level. I. INTRODUCTION
