Carlo Lorenzini, better known as Carlo Collodi (Nov 24, 1826 – Oct 26, 1890), was an Italian children's. Collodi was born in Florence. He had won fame in 1856 with his novel In vapore. He entered the children's literature with translations of French fairy tales by Perrault. Lorenzini became fascinated by the idea of using a rascally character as a means of expressing his own convictions through allegory.
In 1880 he began writing The adventures of Ppinocchio. It is about an animated puppet named Pinocchio and his father, a poor woodcarver named Geppetto. It is considered a canonical piece of children's literature and has inspired hundreds of new editions, stage plays and movies, such as Walt Disney's iconic version and commonplace ideas such as a liar's long nose.
